Valeo Specialist Club Enters a New Chapter

A new webpage and identity for Valeo Specialist Club: a free digital loyalty program for workshops earning rewards on every Valeo purchase.

As part of its ongoing development, Valeo is launching a new Specialist Club webpage and introducing a refreshed brand identity for the programme.&nbsp;Designed as a central information hub, the new webpage provides workshops and distributors with easy access to all the key information about the programme, including how it works, the benefits available to members, frequently asked questions, and a dedicated presentation video.&nbsp; At the heart of the new identity is the Specialist Club ambassador, marking a new chapter for the programme. More than just a face for the brand, the ambassador acts as a trusted companion and expert, creating a strong link between Valeo Service, distributors, and workshops. With a deep understanding of the daily challenges faced by automotive professionals, he speaks their language and helps bring the programme closer to its members.&nbsp;Featured across future Specialist Club campaigns, digital and off-line communications and promotional materials, the ambassador will help create a more engaging and relatable experience for workshops and distributors. &nbsp;Valeo also aims to strengthen its connection with workshops, better understand their needs, and continue rewarding their loyalty through regular campaigns, challenges and exclusive opportunities.

Valeo Specialist Club: Loyalty for All

The Valeo Specialist Club is a free, 100% digital loyalty program dedicated to independent workshops. With nearly 80,000 member garages across 16 countries, it is one of the most far-reaching workshop loyalty programmes in the automotive aftermarket.&nbsp; The purpose of the Specialist Club is simple: to reward workshops that regularly choose Valeo parts, and to build long-term brand loyalty.&nbsp;Although designed for workshops, it also plays a significant role for distributors as a powerful tool in driving sell-out across garage networks.

What Is the Valeo Specialist Club?

Garages can download the Valeo Specialist Club app and sign up in just two minutes. Designed specifically to meet the needs of the workshops, the app allows products to be scanned in a few seconds! Earning points has never been faster, eliminating the need for paper vouchers and mailing proofs of purchase.&nbsp;Points are redeemed in the Specialist Club online gift shop for gifts and e-vouchers, while members are informed whenever a new promotion or campaign is available, helping them make the most of every opportunity without missing out.

How Specialist Club Works: Scan, Collect, Redeem

The Specialist Club goes beyond a straightforward points scheme. Throughout the year, Valeo runs themed animations and challenges that keep engagement high. A ‘Spin &amp; Win’ wheel of fortune offers additional prizes for meeting weekly scanning targets.

More Than Points: Animations and Challenges

Distributors can also take an active role through co-designed, tailored animation campaigns. Working with Valeo, they can build bespoke campaigns for their garage networks, choosing product families, defining reward mechanisms, and using a unique promo code to track participating workshops.&nbsp; The results are proven: co-animated campaigns have delivered up to +30% sell-out, and engaged workshops generate on average more than 20 additional Valeo sales per month.&nbsp; &nbsp; The programme also achieves a strong satisfaction score, with a worldwide Net Promoter Score of 59. This very good result reflects the satisfaction of members who actively use the app and benefit from the programme’s exclusive advantages. The programme also scores highly on satisfaction.&nbsp; The Valeo Specialist Club offers distributors a ready-made tool to animate their networks, increase loyalty, and drive sell-out — without the complexity of building something from scratch.

What Campaigns Mean for Distributors

The Valeo Specialist Club reflects Valeo's commitment to supporting aftermarket professionals beyond the supply of parts alone.&nbsp; &nbsp;Through a combination of innovative products, digital solutions, technical expertise and loyalty programmes, Valeo helps distributors and workshops develop their business and adapt to a rapidly changing market. &nbsp; This approach is at the heart of Valeo's ambition to be Your Augmented Service Partner, combining growth, sustainability and service to help its partners succeed both today and in the future. &nbsp; For more information on the Valeo Specialist Club, visit <a href="https://www.valeoservice.com/en-com">valeoservice.com</a>.

<div><h2>Italy Leads Europe’s Electrified Vehicle Boom</h2>The electrified vehicle market is experiencing unprecedented growth in Italy, creating new opportunities and challenges for the automotive aftermarket. Driven by the introduction of new government incentives, battery electric vehicle (BEV) year-to-date registrations have more than doubled compared with the same period last year, reaching an impressive growth rate of 100.8% (source: New AutoMotive and E-Mobility Europe, May 2026). As the number of electrified vehicles on Italian roads continues to rise, workshops must adapt to new technologies and develop the skills required to service and repair these increasingly complex vehicles.&nbsp; The transition to electrified mobility and the advent of ADAS are reshaping the Italian aftermarket landscape and highlighting the growing importance of specialized training and technical expertise. Furthermore, according to a survey carried out by Valeo, currently, one in two mechanics do not maintain or repair electric vehicles, and 62% do not engage in ADAS maintenance. Yet, since July 2024, all new cars sold in Italy have been required to include mandatory ADAS safety systems as standard, making driver-assistance technologies an increasingly common part of everyday workshop operations.&nbsp; Valeo is committed to supporting the aftermarket beyond just supplying spare parts, helping repair professionals build the technical expertise needed to service the vehicles of today and tomorrow. &nbsp;<h2>An Innovative Training Program</h2>Valeo Tech Academy provides training covering all automotive systems and brands, not just Valeo products, to ensure a comprehensive learning experience across the entire automotive landscape. Marlène Carrias-Iked, Vice-President Strategic Marketing, Digital and Innovation for Valeo Service: « As a leader in electrification and ADAS, Valeo is proud to leverage its expertise to support the growing needs of workshops with the development of electrification and autonomous driving. Thanks to Valeo Tech Academy, we are able to offer tailor-made solutions to prepare mechanics to diagnose and repair electric vehicles and vehicles equipped with driving assistance systems (ADAS). We have already launched Valeo Tech Academy in France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the UK and, today, we are ready to offer this service to the Italian market »<h2> State-of-the-Art Digital Experience</h2>Valeo Tech Academy is an extensive digital program with 45 hours dedicated to maintenance and repair solutions on current technologies as they make the majority of workshop entries today. It is also a standout new technologies program including 50 hours of online pure electric and hybrid vehicles training from security basics to advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting, and 25 hours of ADAS &nbsp;digital training. All sessions can be followed under the form of short capsules (5 to 30 minutes), allowing mechanics to learn at their own pace and at any time of the day. The program also includes prior and post-assessments to ensure measurable skill improvements. The offer is competitively priced and offers the choice to purchase individual modules or subscribe to flexible monthly or yearly plans.<h2> Face to Face Sessions Using Simulators</h2>Valeo’s new EV and Hybrid face-to-face training sessions lean heavily on practical learning with three training levels: &nbsp;<ul><li>L1: Essentials of Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance</li><li>L2: Components and Measurements of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles</li><li>L3: Advanced diagnostics for hybrid and electric vehicles</li></ul> Learning on Educational Simulators At the heart of Valeo’s practical method lies its exclusive low-voltage educational simulator, which enables technicians to practice and experiment without risk. The simulator shows what happens within various components, providing full visibility of internal operations—a feature which would be impossible to obtain on a real high-voltage vehicle. It also reproduces all types of motor technologies for all brands and models, making it both universal and highly realistic. 150 Failure Scenarios The simulator includes 150 failure scenarios to allow trainees to test, diagnose, correct, and apply what they have learned. These failure scenarios include: &nbsp;<ul><li>Diagnosing complex EV and hybrid issues</li><li>Visualizing faults step-by-step</li><li>Understanding risks linked to high-voltage systems without any danger</li><li>Memorizing correct diagnostic procedures through hands-on repetition</li></ul>&nbsp;While theoretical learning provides a strong foundation, the real added value comes from simulator-based practice. Training sessions are enriched with photos and videos of real parts, helping participants connect the learning content with the components they handle every day. This hands-on approach has earned Valeo Tech Academy face-to-face sessions a satisfaction score of &nbsp;9.5/10.<h2> Certifications</h2>Valeo Tech Academy is a ‘Certified Training Organization’, with courses and trainers certified by the IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry), which sets the benchmark in the standards for automotive skills globally.<h2> Join Valeo Tech Academy</h2>With up to 60% of workshop time now spent on diagnostics, strengthening technical expertise is a real opportunity to improve efficiency, reduce intervention times, and grow business sustainably. LKQ Academy and Valeo partnership signature

In a context of deep transformation in the automotive market, LKQ Academy, LKQ Europe’s automotive training provider, and Valeo, a global leader in automotive technology, announce a structuring partnership aimed at supporting mechanical repairers and body shops in developing their competency on the most recent technologies. Faced with the rise of electrified vehicles, ADAS systems, and the increasing complexity of diagnostics, training becomes a decisive lever for performance and competitiveness for workshops.

<h2>Bridging the skills gap: the key role of training</h2>Lee Chapman, Head of Support and LKQ Academy at LKQ Euro Car Parts, said: “Workshops are being asked to keep pace with increasingly complex vehicle technologies, from electrification to ADAS, while still maintaining productivity and profitability day to day. That is why training has such an important role to play.Through LKQ Academy, our focus is on giving technicians practical skills, confidence and support that they can take straight back into the workshop. By partnering with Valeo Tech Academy, we’re combining leading technical expertise with accessible, high-quality training that helps our customers reduce diagnostic time, work safely on newer vehicle systems and build long-term capability for the future."<h2>&nbsp;</h2><h2>Driving workshop’s performance through IMI-certified training</h2>Marlene Carrias-Iked, Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Digital Services at Valeo, declares: “ This partnership between Valeo Tech Academy and LKQ Academy marks a key milestone in our common ambition: to sustainably raise the competence level of aftermarket professionals, by combining Valeo's technological leadership and the expertise of the ECP network, a major player in the aftermarket in the UK. Together, we are offering a high added-value training program, serving the performance and transformation of the sector. Through our innovative pedagogical approach and industry-recognized IMI certification, we ensure technicians are fully equipped to master the challenges of tomorrow’s mobility. ”<h2> A common commitment to strengthen field expertise</h2>This collaboration capitalizes on Valeo’s worldwide leadership position in both electrification, as evidenced by its technology being present in one out of every three hybrid and electric vehicles globally, and in ADAS, with its systems integrated into one out of every three new cars worldwide.&nbsp;Together, Valeo and LKQ Academy offer a technical training program dedicated to new powertrains, electrification, and driver assistance systems, covering all makes and vehicle architectures.&nbsp;Launched at the end of 2024, Valeo Tech Academy provides brand-agnostic training, covering all automotive systems and brands, not just Valeo products, to ensure a comprehensive learning experience across the entire automotive landscape. The Valeo Tech Academy training program is IMI-certified, ensuring recognized, high-quality standards aligned with the expectations of the automotive industry and reinforcing the credibility of technicians’ skills development.<h2> An innovative training approach focused on workshop performance</h2>These programs aim to reduce diagnostic time and strengthen intervention capabilities across all vehicle types, helping professionals better manage complex system interactions and sustainably improve workshop efficiency and profitability.&nbsp;The program begins with short, interactive digital modules, effectively preparing participants for in-person sessions.&nbsp;Then, the in-person sessions propose innovative educational solutions, concrete case studies of workshop entries, and the handling of tools identical to those used by professionals. Deployed regionally, closer to the repairers, they rely on a unique and innovative pedagogical approach based on advanced simulators, enabling:&nbsp;• Visualization of internal components and system interactions • Practice on more than 150 real-life fault scenarios • Training across all vehicle brands and architectures • Use of the same diagnostic tools as in the workshop, in a safe environment This approach allows technicians to accelerate their understanding, gain confidence, and develop operational skills faster than traditional vehicle-based training.&nbsp;Finally, to strengthen the practical application, a follow-up webinar is organized a few weeks after returning to the workshop, offering learners the opportunity to share their experiences and issues with their peers and their trainer.&nbsp;The collaboration between Valeo and LKQ Academy was initiated in February 2026. The enthusiastic response from the first participating technicians highlights the immediate value of the program and its promising future. <a href="https://www.valeoservice.co.uk/en-uk/tech-academy">Discover Tech Academy</a>&nbsp;

Tech Academy: EV & Hybrid Face-to-Face Training

The automotive sector is currently undergoing an electric revolution and training has become more important than ever in order to be able to maintain and repair those new technologies.

The automotive sector is currently undergoing an electric revolution and training has become more important than ever in order to be able to maintain and repair those new technologies.

However, an IMI forecast in April 2025 estimated that only 67,000+ technicians (around 28% of the workforce) will be EV-qualified in 2025, if current trends continue. With the speed of change accelerating across the aftermarket, upgrading skills has never been more important.&nbsp;<h2>Tech Academy Face-to-Face Training&nbsp;</h2>Unlike most training courses on the market, which cover theory as a first step and practice afterwards, Valeo’s new EV and Hybrid face-to-face training sessions lean heavily on practical learning. This means trainees practice first, experiment second, and finally, work out the theory from their own actions. This practical approach is a tried and tested way to retain new information. Valeo’s Tech Academy EV and Hybrid Face to Face sessions offers three training levels:&nbsp;<ul><li><a href="https://www.learning.valeo-techacademy.com/fr/learn/courses/805/fondamentaux-des-vehicules-hybrides-et-electriques-l1">L1: Essentials of Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance</a></li><li><a href="https://www.learning.valeo-techacademy.com/fr/learn/courses/807/fonctionnement-et-diagnostic-de-base-des-vehicules-hybrides-et-electrique-l2">L2: Components and Measurements of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles</a></li><li><a href="https://www.learning.valeo-techacademy.com/fr/learn/courses/138/diagnostic-avance-des-vehicules-hybrides-et-electriques-l3">L3: Advanced diagnostics for hybrid and electric vehicles</a></li></ul><h2>Learning on Educational Simulators</h2>At the heart of Valeo’s practical method lies its exclusive low-voltage educational simulator, which enables technicians to practice and experiment without risk. The simulator shows what happens within various components, providing full visibility of internal operations—a feature which would be impossible to obtain on a real high-voltage vehicle. It also reproduces all types of motor technologies for all brands and models, making it both universal and highly realistic.&nbsp;<h2>150 Failure Scenarios&nbsp;</h2>The simulator includes 150 failure scenarios to allow trainees to test, diagnose, correct, and apply what they have learned. These failure scenarios include: &nbsp;<ul><li>Diagnosing complex EV and hybrid issues</li><li>Visualizing faults step-by-step</li><li>Understanding risks linked to high-voltage systems without any danger</li><li>Memorizing correct diagnostic procedures through hands-on repetition</li></ul> While theoretical learning provides a strong foundation, the real difference happens on the simulator. Training sessions are also enriched with photos and videos of actual parts, helping participants make connections with components they see on a daily basis.&nbsp; Lightweight and easy to transport, the simulator allows Valeo trainers to bring high-value practical learning directly to technicians across regions.&nbsp;<h2>Real World Experiences of Trainees&nbsp;</h2>During a recent training session, participants were asked for feedback. “Technologies have evolved tremendously in recent years. As an automotive expert, you must always stay up to date,” says Dominique Queroy, Automotive Expert since 1988. “I had never attended a training course using a simulator. It’s incredibly effective for diagnosing a wide range of EV and hybrid situations.” Queroy strongly recommends both the course and the instructors: “The trainers are excellent, and the simulator makes learning by doing both accessible and memorable.” He also highlights the growing importance of EVs in his daily work: battery concerns, new types of failures, and the rapid evolution of systems.&nbsp;Bertrand Fresneau, an Automotive Expert from Lidéo Orléans, found the simulator similarly powerful.“It allows you to visualize real operations even without having a car available. You can clearly see different assemblies and technologies used in EVs.” Fresneau adds “electric vehicles evolve much faster than combustion engines, so continuous training is essential. This helps us guide technicians in the workshop, identify failure points, and quickly understand the origin of malfunctions”.<h2>Recognised and Rewarded by Professionals</h2>Achieving a 9.5/10 satisfaction score, Valeo Tech Academy empowers professionals to diagnose faster, reinforce their expertise, and build long-term business performance. By combining cutting-edge technical content with practical learning on simulators, it gives repairers the confidence to take on electrified vehicles and complex diagnostics with greater ease and accuracy. In a market undergoing rapid transformation, Valeo Tech Academy stands as a trusted partner, helping workshops turn new technological challenges into real growth opportunities.&nbsp;<a style="text-decoration:none;" href="https://www.learning.valeo-techacademy.com/gb/learn/public/catalog/view/433">Read more</a>

Spring Clean Your Car: Get Ready for the Road with Valeo

Spring is here, and it's the perfect time to give your car a thorough check-up before hitting the road.

Spring is here, and it's the perfect time to give your car a thorough check-up before hitting the road.

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or just preparing for the warmer months, Valeo has you covered.
Follow this spring cleaning guide to ensure your car is safe, clean, and ready for any adventure.

<h2>1. Check Your Wiper Blades for Clear Visibility</h2>
Over time, wiper blades can wear out, leading to reduced visibility during rain. If the rubber is cracked or worn, they won’t clear your windshield properly, increasing the risk of impaired vision.
Fortunately, wipers are quick and easy to change. Visit your local garage or do it yourself. Don’t forget to check your screenwash levels and refill them if needed.
Valeo Tip: For optimal performance, choose Valeo Silencio™ wipers, designed for durability and perfect fit.

<h2>2. Test Your Lights for Safe Driving</h2>
Lights are essential for visibility and safety on the road. Before setting off, check all your lights, including:
<ul><li>Brake lights</li>
	<li>Headlights (low and high beams)</li>
	<li>Fog lights</li>
	<li>Reverse lights</li>
	<li>Indicators</li>
</ul>Ensure that all bulbs are working correctly, and replace any that are dim or faulty. Properly functioning lights make you more visible to other drivers and help you see clearly at night.

<h2>3. Inspect Your Brakes for Safety</h2>
Your brakes are one of the most crucial safety features of your car. Make sure they are in top condition by having a trusted mechanic check the brake pads and discs for wear. Additionally, check your brake fluid levels:
<ul><li>A low fluid level may indicate a leak or worn brake pads.</li>
<li>The fluid should be a light golden brown color.</li>
<li>Brake fluid should be changed every two years.</li>
<li>Properly maintained brakes ensure you can stop safely and control your vehicle’s speed, giving you peace of mind on the road.</li>
</ul>
<h2>4. Check Essential Fluids for Smooth Driving</h2>
To keep your car running smoothly, make sure the following fluids are at the right levels:
<ul><li>Engine Oil: Ensures proper lubrication and prevents engine wear.</li>
<li>Coolant: Prevents your engine from overheating.</li>
</ul>Check these fluids 2-3 times a year or before any long journey to avoid breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.

<h2>5. Inspect Your Tyres for Safety and Fuel Efficiency</h2>
Properly maintained tyres improve handling, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance safety. Before heading out on a road trip:
<ul><li>Check tyre pressure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations (usually found on the driver’s door frame).</li>
<li>Inspect tyre tread for wear and replace tyres if they are worn out.</li>
<li>Ensure your tyres are less than 5 years old, as rubber degrades over time.</li>
<li>Tyre Pressure Tip: Remember that your car's load and road type can affect tyre pressure. Adjust accordingly for a safe and comfortable ride.</li>
</ul>
<h2>6. Clean Your Car’s Interior for a Fresh Start</h2>
Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home! A clean car interior enhances comfort and hygiene. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as:
<ul><li>Steering wheel</li>
	<li>Gear stick</li>
	<li>Touch screens</li>
	<li>Buttons and switches</li>
</ul>A well-maintained car not only keeps you safe but also ensures a more enjoyable driving experience. Spring clean your car with Valeo’s trusted products and hit the road with confidence.

Valeo levels up the expertise of mechanics with Valeo Tech Academy

To meet the evolving needs of the industry, Valeo is launching Valeo Tech Academy, an innovative training program that offers both digital and in-person learning.

To meet the evolving needs of the industry, Valeo is launching Valeo Tech Academy, an innovative training program that offers both digital and in-person learning.

<h2>An Innovative Training Program</h2>
Currently, one in two mechanics do not maintain or repair electric vehicles, and 62% do not engage in ADAS maintenance. In view of this skill gap, Valeo is committed to supporting the aftermarket beyond just supplying spare parts.
Valeo Tech Academy provides brand-agnostic training, covering all automotive systems and brands, not just Valeo products, to ensure a comprehensive learning experience across the entire automotive landscape.
We have already launched Valeo Tech Academy in France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the UK with the ambition to extend the offer to other countries. »

<h2>State-of-the-Art Digital Experience</h2>
Valeo Tech Academy is an extensive digital program with 45 hours dedicated to maintenance and repair solutions on current technologies as they make the majority of workshop entries today. It is also a standout new technologies program including 50 hours of online pure electric and hybrid vehicles training from security basics to advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting, and 25 hours of ADAS  digital training.
All sessions can be followed under the form of short capsules (5 to 30 minutes), allowing mechanics to learn at their own pace and at any time of the day. The program also includes prior and post-assessments to ensure measurable skill improvements.
Valeo Tech Academy enhances the digital learning experience with immersive interactive gamified content and high-quality visuals, making the training program dynamic, enjoyable,  and effective.
The offer is competitively priced, featuring innovative payment options, including the choice to purchase individual modules or subscribe to flexible monthly or yearly plans.

<h2>Face to Face Sessions Using Simulators</h2>
Valeo Tech Academy also provides advanced face-to-face sessions, including one full day on ADAS  or EV training. Our innovative in-person sessions are based on simulators that allow mechanics to engage in over 150 real-life repair scenarios—ensuring they are better prepared for the challenges they will face in the workshop. Unlike traditional training programs that often focus on a limited set of problems tied to a single vehicle type, our simulator-based sessions cover a wide range of repair scenarios. This comprehensive approach allows mechanics to gain practical experience across various makes and models, significantly expanding their knowledge and skills.
The simulators allow mechanics to work with all components found in electrified vehicles, including batteries, inverters, and electric motors. They will gain a deep understanding of the interaction between these systems and components and will use real tools—including calibration equipment—during their training.
Valeo is capable of training mechanics in EV for all architectures, diagnosing failure combinations, and understanding all of the possible solutions and situations they might come across. In workshops, 60% of time is spent on diagnostics, yet many assessments are too slow or inaccurate, leading to claims, driver dissatisfaction, and lost productivity. Our new simulator-based training enables mechanics to quickly identify issues and sharpen their problem-solving skills, leading to faster, more accurate diagnoses and improved workshop efficiency.

<h2>Certifications &amp; Subsidies</h2>
Valeo Tech Academy is a ‘Certified Training Organization, with courses and trainers certified by
<ul><li>IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry), which sets the benchmark in the standards for automotive skills globally</li>
<li>and Qualiopi  in France. This ensures the highest standards in professional education and access to public funding.</li>

Valeo Tech@ssist - Technical Information at your Fingertips

At the festive end of the year, it’s common to have a packed schedule and little time for any non-essentials. That being said, making sure your car is winter ready is a vital task for all motorists, no matter their driving experience.

The first aim of any journey is to make sure that everyone gets from A to Z as safely as possible. To ensure that drivers and their families are safe on the road, regardless of the weather conditions or time of day, Valeo recommends the following considerations:

<h2>A for Air Conditioning</h2>

A fully functioning air conditioning system ensures that visibility is never compromised and it’s possible to demist the windscreen and windows as quickly as possible when out in traffic. Having the right temperature in the car is also key to being able to drive comfortably and not need a thick jacket that can hinder mobility.

<h2>B for Battery</h2>

A flat car battery is a pain at any time of the year, but much more likely to come about when temperatures hit 0 or below. If it’s not possible to turn on your engine once a day for a few minutes, it’s important to at least run your engine once a week for 20 to 30 minutes and charge the circuit.
Battery problems are the cause of more call outs for breakdown services in the winter than anything else.

<h2>C for Car Kit</h2>

Creating a winter car kit is invaluable for when things go wrong, and things are always far more likely to go wrong in the tough weather conditions that the end of the year brings. A number of useful items to bear in mind are:
<ul><li>Safety yellow jacket</li>
	<li>Reflective warning triangle</li>
	<li>Ice scraper and de-icer</li>
	<li>Jump leads</li>
<li>Car phone charger and phone battery case</li>
	<li>Blanket</li>
	<li>Hot Drink Flask</li>
	<li>Sunglasses (for a low sitting sun)</li>
</ul>
<h2>L for Lights</h2>

A commonly overlooked yet major safety consideration is the quality of a vehicle’s lights. Excellent light bulbs are not only imperative to meaning that you can see everything on your path when driving at night, but also in not blinding any oncoming traffic.
Always ensure that headlamps and rear lamps are clean from any dust. Lights can also be checked at a garage to make sure that they won’t be the cause of accidents.

<h2>O for Oil</h2>

It is often easy to forget that oil is just as important as fuel for the full functioning of a vehicle, even though it’s not topped up as often. With the use of a dip stick, it’s a simple check to see whether more oil is needed and how much. Taking care not to exceed the required amount is also important.

<h2>R for Rest</h2>

Fatigue occurs more quickly during the winter due to the need for greater concentration when driving. Slippery roads, darkness, and visual fatigue (resulting from the headlights of oncoming cars and bad weather conditions) are all assaults on one’s senses. Taking a 20mn break every two hours, and where possible, short naps is crucial to preventing accidents.

<h2>S for Screenwash</h2>

It only takes minutes to replenish a vehicle’s screen wash, but one thing many drivers don’t consider is whether the product they are using can function at sub-zero temperatures. Buying the cheapest product on the market isn’t necessarily the best option.

<h2>T for Tyres</h2>

Having the correct tyre tread depth and air pressure are never as important as during the winter months. With wet, icy roads and potholes to contend with, it’s necessary to ensure the recommended depth and pressure for a maximum load is always in place. A vehicle’s exact requirements can be found in the user’s manual. It’s a simple thing to test, but not doing so could have dramatic consequences.

Brake pads and discs also are important parts to check as they are more susceptible to damage when driving in tough weather conditions.

<h2>W for Wiper Blades</h2>

Rain, ice, snow, and road salt are serious obstacles to a clean windscreen in the darker months of the year, and top quality wiper blades are the best way to combat such hazards. It’s generally recommended to change a vehicle’s wiper blades once a year, and therefore just before the onset of winter is definitely the most advisable time to do so.

Prepare your car for winter with this essential guide to staying safe on the roads. From de-icing to driving in bad weather, we've got you covered.

Important car checks before winter

Important car checks before your next holiday

Think about your safety and comfort before hitting the road

Think about your safety and comfort before hitting the road

You may soon be going on a long drive towards your holiday destination. In order to guarantee a trip without problems nor surprises, a complete check-up of your car is a must: What are the most important things that need verifying?

<h2>Make sure your wiper blades are in good condition</h2>

Are your windscreen wipers still in good shape? Over time, if the rubber splits or degrades, they can lose efficiency and won’t do their job well; you then run the risk of not being able to see out of your windscreen. Fortunately, wipers are quick and easy to change; you can have it done at your local garage. Make sure you remember to check your screenwash levels as well, and to refill if necessary.

<h2>Test your lights to ensure that you can see well</h2>

Lights are crucial for safe driving. If a light or several lights are not working properly, your visibility will be reduced and you will be less visible to other drivers. Before any long trip, you need to check your brake lights, headlights, and fog lights, as well as your reverse lights and, of course, your  indicators.

<h2>Are your brakes working well?</h2>

Well-maintained brakes ensure that you can stop safely and control the speed of your vehicle. Your trusted workshop needs to check that your brake pads and discs aren’t worn out, and also make sure to check your brake fluid levels and boiling point on a regular basis, as a sufficient amount of brake fluid ensures good braking. Be aware that an abnormally low fluid level may indicate either a leak or worn brake pads. The fluid color is also a good overall indicator and should be a light golden brown. Brake fluid should be changed every two years.

<h2>Other important fluids to check</h2>

To keep all the mechanical parts of the car working properly, the level of the following fluids should be checked 2-3 times a year, or before every long journey:
<ul><li>Engine oil level: Engine oil provides lubrication to the various engine parts and prevents wear from friction. It is therefore essential to have enough oil before setting off on a car holiday.</li>
<li>Coolant level: When running, the engine tends to heat up. The coolant prevents overheating.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Check your tyre pressure and condition before you head off</h2>

Tyres can deflate slightly over time. This can affect the vehicle's handling, and can also lead to higher fuel consumption and high risks of accidents, so it’s important to check tyre pressure before a long trip. The same goes for tyre wear; if they will soon need replacing, plan to do it before you go on holiday. Tyres have a lifetime of 5 years (rubber degradation), so check the production date printed on your tyres and ensure they are less than 5 years.
Tyre pressure tip: The pressure values recommended by the manufacturers are usually indicated on the inside of the driver's door. Always keep in mind that the load of the car and type of road also have an incidence on the pressure values.

<h2>Clean your car cabin for a healthy trip</h2>

Cleaning and disinfecting a car's interior is an often neglected, yet essential element of car maintenance. Parts of the driver's cabin that see frequent use can become breeding grounds for bacteria, including the steering wheel, gear stick lever and touch screens, as well as the switches and buttons. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic makes good hygiene practices more important than ever, so you might want to take the opportunity to go over these parts of the cabin with a basic domestic disinfectant.
You can also use Valeo ClimSpray™ and ClimPur™  to clean, disinfect and protect your cabin. It comes as a spray that can be used by anyone. It has an automatic effect: once sprayed in the cabin, it disinfects the vehicle’s interior in 15 minutes flat. The product not only prevents the spread of infectious microbes at the source, but also releases a pleasant fragrance.
Of course, it is also important to check that your air-conditioning system has sufficient pressure and that cabin filters are in good condition.

Car checks: Wiper blades, brakes, fluid levels, tyres, air conditioning system and filters should be on your priority checklist before heading for a long drive.
